On March 3, we all headed up to Annapolis, MD so Hailey's Destination Imagination team..."Team Awesome" could compete. They had been working for most of the school year building a structure & to write a play...completely on their own. One of the rules is that they have to do EVERYTHING by themselves. From cutting wood to sewing costumes, it has to be all them. They can have someone teach them the technique, but then they have to do all the work. It does a great job teaching them problem solving and creativity....you can't even answer questions directly...you have answer with another question so you don't lead them at all.

Hailey's costume that she made herself...her tail was her first sewing machine project. I have to say she is going to be a great seamstress--she sewed VERY straight lines :D
First they performed their play for the families and judges, which had to do with their structure. It was a story about a mail lady & dog who delivered a super heavy box, that happened to contain a birthday present. Later there was a party and in the box was a dragon! and her brother and sister eggs {the golf balls--see bellow}. They were super energetic..it was cute :)
Their structure had to hold golf balls inside and hold up weights placed on top. I had to be made of only wood and glue. They chose to use popsicle sticks and it ended up supporting 30 pounds :) Here they are demonstrating & testing their structure in front of the judges.
They didn't end up going on to the state competition, but I think they all had a fantastic time :)
