Science Night

We had our first Science fair on Tuesday night- the kids all had a blast. Our project came out great- Curtis got a lot of compliments. We made cornstarch quicksand- if you haven't tried it do- it is crazy stuff. Slowly mix 1/2 cup of water in to 1 cup of cornstarch with your fingers (mix it up good before adding more water). It has properties of both liquids and solids- the kids think it is awesome. But anyway we were able to feed turtles (Curtis's favorite), see a huge snapping turtle, see and hold all sorts of snakes (Owen loved this), and see frogs. Potter Park Zoo was there with a parrot, a leg-less lizard, and a chinchilla. They were able to make slime (Hailey's favorite part). And hold bugs, a giant centipede, stick bug or roaches (yuck, yuck, yuck). Hailey was the first to hold the stick bug, it took more convincing for the boys, go figure. Thankfully they all resisted holding the roaches. Also how liquid nitrogen is so cold that it causes magnets to repel metal instead of attract it. Hailey and her class did a dance demonstrating a butterfly's life cycle :) it was cute. We all had a great time...
